Donald Caladine Bate - a Story too Far

 

Donald Caladine Bate was born in 1922 in Stourbridge, after starting a career in journalism it wasn't long before he was called up to serve in world war 2, first starting in gliders before being picked to join a very special unit, the 21st Independent parachute company. This is his story in his own words while part of Operation Market Garden, the Battle of Arnhem. The film also tells about his family who made the Isle of Wight their home from 1942, where they ran hotels in Seaview and Shanklin. Released on the 17th of September 2024.
